The Vito S. Gentile Memorial Scholarship

Dedicated and determined…words used to describe Mr. Vito Gentile, who emigrated from Italy in 1959.  Mr. Gentile work tirelessly to support his family in a new country.  With an unwavering commitment, he was determined to make a better life for himself and his family.  He worked at various construction sites, among them the Queens campus of St. John’s University, and the former Exxon skyscraper in Manhattan.  He rose through the ranks and was highly regarded in the construction industry as one of the top superintendents of the city. 
 
This scholarship was established by his family with gratitude, love, and a sense of pride to ensure his legacy of faith, family, and hard work would be an inspiration to the students of Xaverian.   Along with academic achievement, the student presented with this scholarship must demonstrate personal characteristics consistent with the Xaverian charism: Trust, Zeal, Humility, Simplicity, and Compassion.
